Hugh Daly

I feel fortunate to be able to express myself by pushing paint around a surface. Personal homage to significant places and points in time, along with a celebration of the human spirit motivate my work. I use combinations of loose lines, organic shapes, and color to create composition. Painting layer over layer, images suddenly appear from beneath. These images are captured and manipulated, then often forced to recede beneath a new layer of paint. This process goes on again and again, until I feel a harmonious balance has been achieved between figure and ground: between image and content. I find satisfaction not only in in the message I am conveying through my work, but also in the subjective interpretations my paintings seem to offer.
